This a successful B&B just 2 1/2 hours from the richest city in the world!

The Village …
The village of Fleischmanns is located on the Route 28 corridor, just 2 ½ hours from New York City. Being only 2 miles from Belleayre Mountain Ski Center (www.belleayre.com), we are truly in a 4 season area. Fleischmanns is a village on the brink of revitalization. The village has just completed construction of a new sewer plant, which means new commercial enterprise can finally be established in the many unutilized buildings along Main Street. And with the recent announcement of the expansion of the ski center and a $400 million resort project, there is much real estate speculation happening in the area. The village is expected to benefit greatly from the trickle down of the development since we are the closest town to the ski slopes and resort. Not a Sign of Hypocrisy Anywhere
It was a pumpkin festival created for a pumpkin fetish. More than 10,000 jack-o’-lanterns converged for the grand (if wet) Pumpkin Festival around Central Park’s (appropriately named?) Dead Road. Pumpkin playland. Pumpkin giveaway. Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin maze. Pumpkin seeds. Rows of pumpkins. Walls of pumpkin. All made for quite the pumpkin photo op.
Six tractor-trailers hauled the pumpkins in from Vermont for Saturday’s event, which was sponsored by the city parks department and Camp Sunshine, a retreat for children with terminal illnesses and their families.
A lot of brainpower has gone into figuring out how you can carve your pumpkin and eat it, too, but give credit to the festival for getting pumpkin carving down to assembly-line precision. Volunteers were split into three lines — one for carving the top, one for scooping out the innards, one for carving the front. “That’s the way you can get a lot of pumpkins carved,” said Matthew M. Hoidal, the executive director for Camp Sunshine. (Random trivia: Jack-o’-lanterns were originally conceived as symbols of the harvest, which is why as of the beginning of the 1900s, they made an appearance not only at Halloween, but at Thanksgiving, too.)
Alas, this October is a month in which New York City seems destined to lie in Boston’s shadow, as Beantowners managed to carve twice the number of jack-o’-lanterns for that city’s pumpkin festival as New Yorkers did Central Park this past weekend — more than 20,000.
Not only that, but Boston currently holds the Guinness world record for number of jack-o’-lanterns ever in one place, with 30,128 pumpkins last year in Boston Commons (besting a record long held by Keene, N.H.).
Are pumpkins another Boston dynasty in the making? (Nah. Just wait till next year.)

Canyon, TX (PRWEB) October 3, 2007 — Historic Hudspeth House Bed and Breakfast will go on the auction block Thursday, October 11, at noon, according to Tom “Spanky” Assiter of Assiter and Associates.
Located at 1905 4th Avenue in Canyon, Hudspeth House is on the Texas Register of Historic Buildings. “This charming historical home was built in 1909,” said Assiter, “and it remains one of the most prominent homes in Canyon.”
Hudspeth House was built by Thomas Turk with a kit purchased from the Sears Roebuck catalog and was originally located at 402 Palo Duro, west of the town square. In 1910, Miss Mary Elizabeth Hudspeth, a teacher at the West Texas Normal College (now West Texas A & M University) became a boarder in the home. She loaned money to the owners for completion of the home. In 1913, the home was deeded to Hudspeth as repayment of the loan, and she had the home moved to its current location at 1905 4th Avenue.
