Ten Commandments of B&B

Thou shalt not cover thy place with tasteless ornaments so thy guests cannot put anything down on a surface.

Thou shalt not create needless rules and restrictions for thy guests.

Thou shalt not covet gratuities from thy guests. If thy hospitality is exceptional thou may be duly rewarded.

Thou shalt not post needless signs around thy home instructing guests on their behavior.

Thou shalt not command thy guests to partake of breakfast at a specific time.

Thou shalt not constantly hover over thy guests and so make them feel oppressed.

Thou shalt apologize quickly and politely and immediately assume the blame for any deficiencies.

Thou shalt set thy tariffs to give thy guests full value for their stay and not mislead them with false proclamations before their arrival.

Thou shalt consider thy guests equivalent to a higher being at all times and treat them with reverence.

Thou shalt not market unrelated products to thy guests for profit.

By obeying these simple commandments thy guests may return one day and also speak kindly of thee to their friends.

Amen

  3. Personally the most rewarding B&B breakfasts I’ve ever experienced were when all the guests sat down together to eat at a specified time. There is something very special about breaking bread together that forever bonds us as human beings. Consequently I serve a three course gourmet breakfast at 9am. If you show up at 9:15, you miss the fruit and bread course. If you show up at 9:30 your food will be cold, after that if it still any good, I eat it or give it away.

  4. We too have not limited our guests to a specific time for breakfast. We serve our hot breakfast anytime from 6:00am to 11:00 am.
A lot depends on “reading”our guests. If they are not having a bonding weekend, (privacy) we always sit with them to have coffee.
